Three prisoners have gone on hunger strike in Georgia.

In Georgia, Georgiy Chikvaidze and Irakli Papiashvili, convicted of misappropriating large sums of money, along with protest participant Anzor Kvaratskhelia, have announced a hunger strike.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, businessman Georgiy Chikvaidze was sentenced to nine years in prison on charges of misappropriating large sums of money, and his business partner, Irakli Papiashvili, was sentenced to eight years in prison. Chikvaidze has repeatedly announced a hunger strike, the last time he did so in May, after he had already been convicted. Protest participant Anzor Kvaratskhelia, accused of assaulting police officers, was sentenced in July to 4.5 years in prison.

Giorgi Chikvaidze and Irakli Papiashvili, as well as Anzor Kvaratskhelia, who was detained at the protest, have declared a hunger strike, Georgia Online reported on October 26, citing Chikvaidze's mother, Eka Tsereteli.

According to her, the prisoners declared the hunger strike due to "actions tantamount to torture," specifically, deprivation of food with the implication that the hunger strikers themselves did not want to eat, as well as hooligan threats from prison staff.
