A man died in a gas explosion in a multi-story building, and three people were hospitalized. Sochi City Hall evacuated residents and declared a state of emergency.

A local state of emergency has been declared in Sochi following a domestic gas explosion in a six-story building. The explosion occurred on the night of October 24-25 in a building at 30/3 Timiryazev Street. Three apartments on the fourth floor were destroyed, and three more were severely damaged. Residents have been evacuated, and 28 people are in temporary accommodation centers. Two temporary accommodation centers have been set up in a hostel in one of the residential complexes.

A 75-year-old man died in the explosion, and three residents remain hospitalized, the Krasnodar Krai emergency response headquarters reported today.

The building on Timiryazev Street is classified as a residential building; ownership was recognized by the court in 2012. Most of the residents were tenants, not property owners. A decision on the building's continued use will be made based on the results of a structural inspection, the report states.
