Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria stops the Board of Elders of Balkar People

The Supreme Court of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has passed a decision to liquidate the Board of Elders of Balkar People (CEBP) as an extremist organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from well-informed sources.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that on November 10 the Prosecutor's Office of Kabardino-Balkaria suspended the activities of the NGO "Board of Elders of Balkar People" on the basis of the Federal Law "On Counteracting Extremist Activities". The KBR Public Prosecutor has addressed the Supreme Court of the Republic with a demand to liquidate the organization.

The motive for the Prosecutor's address was the analytical report prepared by the CEBP and sent to Dmitri Kozak, former plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation for the South Federal District (SFD), which gave an estimate of the social and economic situation in the Republic and stated the impairment by the Republic's authorities of constitutional rights of the Balkar population.

The Prosecutor's Office has considered the conclusions of this report to be of extremist character, since they allegedly could kindle interethnic enmity.

Meanwhile, according to Oyus Gurtuev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Elders, all the utterances, now viewed by the Prosecutor's Office as extremist ones, are just quotations from archive documents, which were used for drafting the analytical report "On Situation with the Balkar People".

The leaders of the Board of Elders are stating their intention to appeal against the today's decision of the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
