A second suspect in the murder of the head of Parakar has been detained.

Security forces in Armenia have detained a man who confessed to the murder of Volodya Grigoryan, head of the village of Parakar. Narek Ohanyan, previously detained in this case, has been remanded in custody.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on September 27, security forces detained Narek Ohanyan, a suspect in the murder of Volodya Grigoryan, head of the Parakar community.

The court granted the investigation's motion to arrest the detainee Narek Ohanyan, News.am reported today.

Security forces also detained a second suspect, who they believe committed the murder. He confessed and indicated the location of the machine gun used in the crime, Novosti-Armenia reported today.

Criminal charges have been brought against him for murder (two counts), attempted murder, and illegal firearms trafficking.

Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Narek Sargsyan confirmed that three people were killed in the shooting in the village of Merdzavan. "Criminal police officers identified and brought to the Vagharshapat police department a person who confessed to opening fire on three people in Merdzavan, killing two and wounding one," the publication quotes him as saying.

On February 5, an armed attack occurred on the home of Merdzavan village head Mher Akhtoyan, resulting in the death of Akhtoyan's cousin, Grigor Ohanyan (a relative of Narek Ohanyan). Volodya Grigoryan's brother, Paykar Grigoryan, is one of the defendants in Ohanyan's murder, the publication notes.

As a reminder, snap elections for the Parakar Council of Elders were held on March 30. The opposition bloc "Unity" won, and its list leader, Volodya Grigoryan, became the head of the community.
