Villagers' homes in Georgia flooded after heavy rains

After heavy rainfall in eastern Georgia, two rivers overflowed their banks, flooding the yards and homes of residents in the villages of Verkhvismindori and Kabali.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," flooding of homes in the Lagodekhi Municipality in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, has occurred repeatedly. For example, in June 2023, strong winds damaged at least 15 homes in several villages, and water flooded the first floors of the homes.

In the villages of Verkhvismindori and Kabali in the Lagodekhi Municipality, the Areshi and Kabali rivers overflowed their banks after continuous rainfall. As a result, the ground floors of residential buildings, courtyards, and garden plots were flooded, Interpressnews reported today.

Furthermore, the Kabali River, which overflowed its banks, flooded a section of the Lagodekhi-Kabali-Gurjaani highway. Traffic on this section of the road is restricted. Fire and rescue teams and local authorities have been mobilized at the scene, the publication writes.

As a reminder, in May 2020, the Kabali River overflowed its banks in the Lagodekhi Municipality. Following this, floods occurred in eight villages. 1 basements and first floors of houses, as well as garden plots, greenhouses, and vineyards, were flooded.

Village residents complained that household appliances and furniture were damaged, and flour, potatoes, and other food stored in their basements were spoiled. Municipal authorities promised to provide assistance to all victims.
