Tbilisi's Rustaveli Avenue Closed for 289th Day in a Row

Supporters of Georgia's European integration held a traditional rally near the parliament building and are preparing for a mass march in defense of the visa-free regime on September 13.

As "Caucasian Knot" wrote, since November 28, 2024, protesters in Tbilisi have been going to Tbilisi for daily rallies near the Georgian parliament and blocking traffic along Rustaveli Avenue, demanding the release of all arrested demonstrators and the appointment of new parliamentary elections. From September 8 to 11, they also held protests near the Georgian Dream election headquarters on Melikishvili Avenue.

Participants in the daily protest action in Tbilisi gathered again this evening near the building of the Georgian parliament and blocked traffic on Rustaveli Avenue for the 289th day in a row, Publika reports. 

Supporters of Georgia's European integration are preparing for a march in defense of the visa-free regime scheduled for September 13. This action was announced at the end of August. "Georgian Dream" refused to implement four recommendations of the European Union - to release political prisoners, stop repression, repeal repressive laws and soften the political climate - which were the condition for maintaining the visa-free regime, the opposition points out. 

The beginning of the action under the slogan "No to the Russian regime, protect the visa-free regime!" is scheduled for 19:00 local time. The protesters will gather at the Tbilisi State University building and march to the parliament building, Formula TV reports.
