Georgian special services announced the arrest of two Ukrainians with explosives

Security forces in Georgia detained two Ukrainian citizens in whose car 2.4 kg of hexogen, a powerful explosive, was found.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, in mid-August the Russian FSB announced the prevention of a terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge. According to Russian security forces, the explosive device was discovered in a car that arrived from Georgia.

The State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia reported the detention of two Ukrainian citizens with a load of explosives. According to the agency, they entered the country in a Mercedes-Benz truck with Ukrainian license plates through the Sarpi checkpoint from Turkey. From Ukraine, the car arrived in transit through Romania and Bulgaria.

Georgian special services officers found 2.4 kg of hexogen in the car's hiding places. The driver of the car explained that he received the explosives from an unknown person in Ukraine and was warned that another person would pick them up in Georgia. This person, who also turned out to be a citizen of Ukraine, was detained later when he met with the driver, the news agency "News Georgia" reports with reference to the State Security Service.

Judging by the entry published on the Georgian State Security Service page on Facebook*, the package was removed from a cylindrical tin can, similar to a paint can, and was swirled in a thick black liquid. The investigation has not determined whether Georgia was the final destination for the hexogen and for what purpose this substance was intended. The special services are considering versions that the explosives were planned to be used to prepare a terrorist attack on the territory of the country or to be transported through Georgia in transit for use elsewhere.

The department added that eight mobile phones, a computer, electronic storage devices, cash, SIM cards of foreign operators and a certain amount of cocaine were also seized from the detainees. The investigation is being conducted under two criminal articles: on the illegal trafficking of explosives and drugs.
