Bulgarian citizen convicted in Rostov-on-Don for justifying terrorism

A military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Rositsa Georgieva, a resident of the Volgograd Region, to a prison term, finding her comments on the Internet to be a justification of terrorism.

Rositsa Georgieva, a citizen of Bulgaria who lived in the Volgograd Region, was charged with two counts of justifying terrorism via the Internet (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code provides for a prison sentence of five to seven years).

According to the prosecution, in 2024 the woman commented on Internet publications about the activities of the paramilitary formation "Russian Volunteer Corps", recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia - videos, photographs and texts. In March and November, Georgieva posted "text comments justifying the terrorist activities" of the unit under these publications, according to the official Telegram channel of the Southern District Military Court.

The court sentenced Georgieva to three years in prison, and she will serve her sentence in a general regime penal colony. The sentence has not yet entered into force, the court's press service said in a statement.

The court's representatives did not indicate whether the Bulgarian citizen admitted her guilt. "Kavkazsky Uzel" has no comments from the accused or her representatives regarding the sentence and plans to appeal.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" also wrote that at the end of August, the Southern District Military Court sentenced 78-year-old pensioner from Stavropol Krai Larisa Kuznetsova to a fine of 320 thousand rubles, recognizing her comment under the news about the death of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky as a justification of terrorism.
