Family complains about estranged ties with Russian detained in Azerbaijan

Relatives of Russian citizen Alexander Vaysero, who was arrested in Azerbaijan in July, still cannot contact him.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on July 1, a court in Bakuarrested eight Russian citizens detained on charges of drug trafficking and cybercrime. Moscow is counting on Baku to abandon excessive and unfair harshness towards the detained Russians, said Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova. On July 16, it became known that relatives of some of the Russians arrested in Baku were able to see them, and the Russian consulcalled their conditions of detention good.

Relatives of Russian citizen Alexander Vaysero, who was detained in Azerbaijan, have been unable to contact him for two months. "There is no information, we cannot contact [Alexander]. I am waiting for permission for a visit, a lawyer is working on it," TASS quotes his mother, Inna Vaysero, as saying.

Vaysero added that the court date for the decision to extend the preventive measure has not yet been set. According to her, some of the detainees are not prohibited from contacting their relatives.

In July, Inna Vaysero noted that her son was in Azerbaijan as a tourist. "He has a photo of him in front of a monument. He went on vacation," she explained.

Russian arrested in Azerbaijan gets married in pretrial detention center

Kaliningrad resident Ilya Bezugly, who is in custody in a Baku pretrial detention center, registered his marriage with his girlfriend in a pretrial detention center.

"They didn't let us in. My son got married to his girlfriend in the pretrial detention center, the consul registered the marriage. We are waiting for a decision to be made at the top,” RIA Novosti quotes his father Igor Bezugly as saying.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Azerbaijan to release the detainees

The release of the Russians detained in Baku would be an important step in improving relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum. Russia has sent a request for consular officers to visit the arrested persons and to inquire about their health, Zakharova said.

"A request has been sent for a fourth meeting of the detainees with consular officers, but the Azerbaijani side has not yet given its consent," she said.

"Caucasian Knot" wrote that among the Russians arrested in Baku are 30-year-old developer Dmitry Bezugly from St. Petersburg and 26-year-old Ilya Bezugly from Kaliningrad - namesakes, not relatives.

Also arrested are 40-year-old IT entrepreneur Igor Zabolotskikh, 22-year-old student from St. Petersburg Dmitry Fedorov, 25-year-old psychologist Alexey Vasilchenko and 38-year-old developer Valery Dulov. The last two are acquaintances - Vasilchenko, allegedly, came to Baku to visit Dulov, who was there "on a business trip." Also arrested were 41-year-old Anton Drachev and 23-year-old Sergei Sofronov.
