CPC reports on Black Sea oil spill response

The Caspian Pipeline Consortium reported that the oil spill off the coast of Novorossiysk has been eliminated, the local emergency regime has been lifted.

As reported by "Kavkazsky Uzel", on August 29, more than a ton of oil products spilled into the sea during the loading of a Turkish tanker at the KTK terminal, a local emergency regime has been introduced in the port of Novorossiysk. The press service of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) reported on the evening of August 30 that the liquidation of the consequences of the oil spill in the Black Sea was completed, the local emergency regime was lifted, Kommersant writes.

According to the company, 13 tugboats, four small vessels, five oil skimmers and nine floating tanks participated in localizing the leak site, more than a kilometer of booms were deployed.

The collected oil and water emulsion was transferred to the marine terminal for subsequent disposal, the volume of leaked oil is being clarified. The CPC press service also reported that environmental monitoring of the sea surface and air conditions was carried out continuously during the operation, and it is planned to continue doing so by taking samples at least twice a day. Visually, there is no oil or oil-containing films on the coastal strip from the beach of the village of Yuzhnaya Ozereyevka to the Utrish Nature Reserve and the beaches of Anapa.

Oil spills periodically occur in the Black Sea in the Krasnodar Territory. Back in November 2023, more than a year before the sinking of two tankers with fuel oil, scientists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography published a report for 2021-2022 with data on the excess of the maximum permissible concentration of oil products in the Black Sea water by 1.2-12 times.
