Volgograd resident detained for preparing strike on military airfield

FSB officers detained a resident of Volgograd on suspicion of preparing a drone strike on a military airfield in the Saratov region.

A Russian citizen who was preparing an attack on a military airfield in Engels has been detained, the FSB Public Relations Center reported. He planned to equip a navigation module for Ukrainian Armed Forces drones. The 35-year-old Volgograd resident temporarily lived in the Lviv region of Ukraine in 2019-2022. After his temporary residence permit expired, he stopped checking in with the Ukrainian migration authorities and came to the attention of SBU officers.

After completing training in Kiev, the man, on the instructions of his curator, came to Volgograd, then went to the Saratov region, where he planned to carry out the task. However, this was not possible: he was detained at his place of residence, Kommersant reports.

According to the FSB, he rented a house near the military airfield in Engels, where he was supposed to equip a navigation module for attack UAVs. Under the guise of a courier for one of the delivery services, he planned to extract previously prepared sabotage equipment from a hiding place, TASS reports.
