Vatican wants to help vulnerable population groups in Abkhazia

Vatican is going to hold various humanitarian actions in Abkhazia and render assistance to the most vulnerable layers of the population of the Republic. This news has been declared today in Sukhumi at the meeting of Sergey Shamba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, with Claudio Huguerotti, Ambassador of Vatican to Georgia.

"Vatican is ready to make efforts for creating favourable conditions for improving the social and economic situation in the Republic and increasing the living standards of ordinary citizens," Mr Huguerotti has noted at his meeting with Mr Shamba.

According to the Ambassador of Vatican, within the framework of humanitarian support some expensive medical equipment and medicines for medical institutions were supplied to Abkhazia.

At the same time, according to Claudio Huguerotti, the Roman Catholic Church is ready to cooperate in development of educational projects, which can provide opportunities for Abkhazian students to obtain their higher education in Europe.

Having thanked the Ambassador of Vatican for their humanitarian support and for the work unfolded in Abkhazia for improving the living standards of ordinary citizens, Minister Shamba assured Mr Huguerotti that the leadership of Abkhazia is highly interested in this sort of projects.
