Prisoner Receives Term in Case of Extremist Organization in Pyatigorsk

A court in Pyatigorsk has sentenced a prisoner, finding him guilty of involvement in an extremist organization because of his tattoos.

The 41-year-old man was found to be a member of an organization recognized as extremist and banned by a court decision (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to the prosecution, from 2022 to 2024, the man served his sentence in a penal colony, where he “publicly displayed” his tattoos “with the symbols of an extremist organization banned in Russia.” This is an organization that “popularizes criminal culture,” according to a statement from the Stavropol prosecutor’s office.

The court also found that the man “openly promoted the traditions of a banned organization among convicts.” The prosecution did not specify how this was expressed, other than by displaying tattoos.

In addition to the previously handed down sentences, the defendant was sentenced to six years and two months of strict regime imprisonment. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force, the department's official Telegram channel notes.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that in June, the court arrested a resident of Abinsk for five days for publicly displaying tattoos with prohibited symbols.

In March, in Karachay-Cherkessia, seven people were convicted of participating in AUE (the organization is recognized as extremist, its activities are prohibited in Russia by the court). The republic's Supreme Court refused to mitigate their sentences, despite numerous violations pointed out by the defense.
