Astrakhan Region Resident Arrested for Telegram Posts

FSB officers detained a resident of the Astrakhan region in a case of public calls for terrorism and extremism due to his posts on the Telegram messenger.

The detained man is 51 years old. The operational footage of his detention shows that the security forces detained him on the territory of a private house half-dressed. The face of the detainee in the video is hidden.

According to the security forces, the man called for “terrorist activity against a representative of the authorities” and extremist activity, Yuzhnaya Volna quotes the words of the representative of the regional FSB department Yulia Karzalova.

The detainee confessed and was sent to a pretrial detention center, AST-NEWS.ru reported.

The criminal case is being investigated under articles on public calls for extremist (Article 280 of the Criminal Code of Russia) and terrorist activity (Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia). The first article provides for up to five years of imprisonment, the second - from five to seven years.

The court also sentenced Krasnodar resident Viktor Morozov to a fine, finding him guilty of justifying terrorism for a comment under a post about the verdict in the case of an attempted arson of military registration and enlistment offices.
