Rostov engineer sentenced to treason

A power engineer at an industrial enterprise in Rostov-on-Don has been sentenced to a long prison term on charges of treason. 

The 54-year-old man's case was heard by the Rostov Regional Court. 

According to the prosecution, in April 2024 the man provided the Ukrainian side with information about the location of Russian military equipment. This data "could have been used against the Russian Armed Forces," the FSB Directorate for the Rostov Region reported today. 

"During the arrest, the suspect's communications equipment, which was used to transmit information to the Ukrainian special services, was confiscated," RAPSI quotes the agency's statement as saying. 

The security forces did not specify whether the accused had admitted his guilt. Under the article on high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), the court sentenced the engineer to 13.5 years in a maximum security penal colony, Interfax-Yug reports.

The personal data of all defendants in high treason cases is hidden in the card index on the website of the Rostov Regional Court. The last sentence in such a case was handed down by the court on August 11, and the case was heard in one month. The article on high treason provides for twelve to twenty years of imprisonment.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that on August 8, the Rostov Regional Court sentenced a 19-year-old student from Taganrog to six years in prison in a high treason case; he pleaded guilty.
