A court in Nalchik sentenced military man Eduard Avanesyan to one year in prison for leaving his military unit for three weeks

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on September 24, 2022, parts 2.1, 3.1 and 5 of Article 337 on unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service during mobilization were introduced into the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. Tightening of laws after the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit.

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court sentenced serviceman Avanesyan, accused of committing a crime under Part 3.1 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The court's press service reported this in the official VKontakte community on August 16.

According to the investigation, Avanesyan did not show up for service at the military unit stationed in the village of Troitskaya in the Sunzhensky District of Ingushetia on May 21 during the "mobilization period." Until June 10, he "spent time at his own discretion at his place of residence in the Stavropol Territory," after which he voluntarily returned to the unit.

At the court hearing, Avanesyan fully admitted his guilt. The court sentenced him to one year of imprisonment.

Note that the court's press release does not indicate the serviceman's name. The case file on the court's website indicates that the convicted man's name is Eduard Avanesyan. His interests were defended by lawyer Diana Khautieva.

Recall that on September 21, 2022, Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization. On October 28 of the same year, the Minister of Defense reported to the President on its completion, but no corresponding decree followed. Lawyers have concluded that a presidential decree is not needed to complete partial mobilization, Putin's press secretary explained.
