Seaport in Astrakhan region attacked by drones

A sea vessel was damaged as a result of an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on the port of Olya in the Astrakhan region, the governor said.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, the Russian Defense Ministry reported this morning on the destruction of 12 Ukrainian UAVs over the Rostov region and Kalmykia. The department did not report any drones shot down in the Astrakhan region. The drone alert regime was also in effect last night in five regions of the North Caucasus: Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia and Stavropol Krai.

The UAV attack on the port of Olya occurred on August 14, Astrakhan Region Governor Igor Babushkin reported today. According to the official, all drones were “suppressed or destroyed.”

“There are no casualties. No damage was caused to the port infrastructure. (...) debris from the downed UAV damaged a vessel,” Babushkin wrote on his Telegram channel. He did not specify which vessel he was talking about or how significant the damage was.

The governor noted that some of the suppressed drones “were not found,” asking residents of the region not to take any action on their own if they were found.

This morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported an attack on the seaport of Olya and damage to the bulk carrier Port Olya 4. According to the Ukrainian military, the port in the Astrakhan region serves as an “important logistics point for the delivery of military goods from Iran,” and the damaged ship was loaded with drone parts and ammunition from Iran, the department’s official Telegram channel said.

The crew of the damaged cargo ship was rescued, but the dry cargo ship itself was sunk, ASTRA (listed by the Russian Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent) reported with reference to an eyewitness. The published photographs show that the ship is partially submerged. As of 17:55 Moscow time, the Russian Ministry of Defense had not reported anything about the attack on the Astrakhan region on its official channels.

The port of Olya is the largest Russian port in the Caspian region, it is located in the village of the same name in the Limansky district of the Astrakhan region in the Volga delta, on the right bank of the Bakhtemir River, according to data from the register of sea ports.
