Investigation into child abuse case in Makhachkala completed

Investigators have completed the investigation of a criminal case against a resident of Makhachkala accused of torturing a minor child, the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan reported today.

The Investigative Department for the Leninsky District of the city of Makhachkala of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Republic of Dagestan has completed the investigation of a criminal case against a local resident accused of torturing a minor child (Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the investigation, from January to July 20, 2025, the accused, while living in one of the houses on Kavkazskaya Street in the village of Novy Kyakhulai in the city of Makhachkala, out of personal hostility towards her minor stepdaughter, systematically beat her with her hands on various parts of the body. As a result, the victim suffered bruises and abrasions that did not result in serious or moderate bodily harm.

"The preliminary investigation has been completed. The criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor for approval of the indictment," the Investigative Committee said in a message on its Telegram channel.

Recall that the Telegram channel "Tut Dagestan" posted a video clip that showed multiple traces of beatings on the child's face, arms, and legs. The audio clip contains a story from a boy who said that the children were systematically tortured, and that the stepmother beat the youngest girl with a jump rope. In addition, the child was starved. All this took place in the absence of the children's father.

High-profile cases of female violence against children in Dagestan and Ingushetia are associated with the general hardening of society, changes in the family format and the practice of transferring children to the father's family after a divorce, human rights activists previously interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" indicated.
