Today, the judge did not pass a sentence on the head of the Ilovlinsky district, Ivan Gel, and returned the case to the prosecutor's office in accordance with Article 237 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for several grounds for this. In particular, if the indictment was drawn up in violation of the requirements of the criminal code or, for example, if the accused, when familiarizing himself with the materials of the criminal case, was not explained the rights provided for in Part Five of Article 217 of this Code, etc., reported "Height 102".

At the court hearing, the defendant was supposed to have the last word, but refused to do so. He never asked the relatives of the deceased for forgiveness, V1 reported.

Recall that on November 17, 2024, residents of the village of Ilovlya appealed to the Prosecutor General and The head of the presidential department for domestic policy was told that Ivan Gel was illegally in office, since his term expired on November 4. District authorities reported that candidates for the post would be selected by a selection committee, and that he would be elected by district council deputies. This was in conflict with the district charter, according to which the head is elected by universal suffrage.

Earlier, residents of Ilovlya held a meeting at which they recorded a video message to the chairman of the Investigative Committee with a complaint about the lack of transparency in the elections of the head of the district. They pointed out that the term of office of the head of the district had expired, but residents were not properly and within the established timeframes informed of any information about his re-election or reappointment.

Local residents believe that "Ivan Gel has big people at the federal and regional levels behind him," Yevgeny Frolov, a resident of the district, told the "Caucasian Knot" in December 2024. "We hope that the court finds him guilty of the death of a person in a fire - and then his tenure as head of the district will be simply blatantly illegal. We are waiting for the court's verdict, since there is no hope for the deputies of the district Duma," he said.
