FSB reports on preventing terrorist attack in Rostov-on-Don

FSB officers prevented a planned terrorist attack against a high-ranking military officer of the Russian Defense Ministry in Rostov-on-Don. A citizen of one of the Central Asian countries recruited by the Ukrainian special services has been detained, the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of Russia reported. "The Federal Security Service has detained a citizen of one of the Central Asian countries, born in 1982, involved in preparing a terrorist act in Rostov-on-Don against a high-ranking serviceman of the Russian Defense Ministry on behalf of the Ukrainian special services," TASS quotes the agency's statement.

According to the FSB, while abroad, he was recruited by an employee of the Ukrainian special services through an acquaintance who is a supporter of international terrorist organizations. On instructions from his curator, he arrived in Rostov-on-Don, where he rented an apartment and conducted reconnaissance of the serviceman's place of residence in order to commit murder using a homemade explosive device. An IED weighing 400 grams in TNT equivalent, means of communication for secret communication with the curator and a video camera for surveillance were confiscated from him.

"The suspect is giving a confession," the Public Relations Center noted.

An investigation has been launched into the criminal case of preparation for a terrorist attack (part y of Article 30, part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal trafficking of explosives (part 1 of Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The suspect has been taken into custody.

As of 9.56 Moscow time, there was no report of the suspect's detention on the FSB website.
