Magomed Omarov's case reaches court

The Sergokalinsky District Court will consider the case of the former head of the district, Magomed Omarov, which was opened after the attack of a group of militants created by Omarov's son on Makhachkala and Derbent.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, the former head of the Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov, accused of fraud, was detained after the militants' attack on Derbent and Makhachkala. Omarov's arrest term has been extended several times.

The Dagestan Prosecutor's Office has approved the indictment in a criminal case against the former head of the Sergokalinsky District and three other individuals.

Depending on their role and degree of participation, they are accused of fraud (parts 3 and 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code), abuse of office (part 2 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code), and forgery of an official document (part 4 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code), the department's Telegram channel reported.

According to the prosecution, in 2016-2022, the head of the district, in collusion with the editor-in-chief of a local newspaper and another person, stole budget funds totaling more than 696 thousand rubles.

In addition, the head of the district gave an illegal order to the chairman of the agricultural production cooperative to allocate a plot of land to his son. Subsequently, by entering deliberately false information about the purchase of cattle in official documents, they stole budget funds allocated as a grant in the amount of more than 2.9 million rubles.

As follows from the message, the case against Omarov will be considered in the Sergokalinsky District Court.

The head of the Sergokalinsky District, Magomed Omarov, was expelled from United Russia in June 2024, dismissed from his post, and then arrested under the article on petty hooliganism. After Omarov was released after serving his term, he was detained and arrested in a criminal case on fraud and money laundering. The investigation estimated the damage at more than three million rubles.

On July 30, 2024, it became known that Omarov was also suspected of fraud with grants from the Ministry of Agriculture.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" also wrote that, according to the investigation, Omarov's son Osman created a group, whose members carried out attacks in Makhachkala and Derbent. One of those killed by security forces was the nephew of the head of the district, Ali Zakarigaev, who headed the district branch of "A Just Russia".

Omarov's wife is under house arrest, she is accused of embezzlement.
