Zurab Djaparidze sentenced to seven months of imprisonment
In Tbilisi, a court found oppositionist Zurab Djaparidze guilty in a criminal case on failure to appear at a meeting of the parliamentary investigative commission.
Zurab Djaparidze, like a number of other opposition politicians, was charged in the case on failure to appear at a meeting of the parliamentary commission. Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (Failure to comply with the requirement of the temporary investigative commission of the parliament), under which the case is being investigated, provides for punishment in the form of a fine or up to one year of imprisonment.
Today, the court has found Zurab Djaparidze guilty of failing to comply with the requirement of the investigative commission and sentenced him to seven months of imprisonment and a ban on holding office for two years, the “InterPressNews” news agency reports.
Zurab Djaparidze did not attend the court hearing in which the verdict was pronounced. He became the first opposition politician convicted of failing to comply with the requirement of the temporary investigative commission of the Georgian parliament, the “InterPressNews” news agency reports.
