Several marches were held in Tbilisi on the 200th day of pro-European protests. Torchlight marchers, whose faces were hidden by masks, have burned down a Russian flag in front of the Georgian Parliament.
On the 200th day of continuous protest actions, protesters have blocked Rustaveli Avenue. They staged a performance by marching from the Chancellery building to the Parliament wearing masks and holding torches, the “Publika” outlet has reported today, posting a video of people with torches, whose faces were hidden by masks, burning the Russian tricolour in front of the Georgian Parliament.
Earlier, social media users called for the removal of tracks by Georgian singer Erekle Getsadze, who desecrated the Russian flag, from all Russian platforms. The head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has demanded to initiate a criminal case.
"When darkness settles, we, citizens of Georgia, will be the people who’ll save Georgia and illuminate this endless darkness. For Mate, for Georgia, for all regime inmates! Down with the ‘Russian Dream’!" the “Publika” has quoted protesters as shouting.
On June 15, a flag march was held in Tbilisi; activists gathered in Republic Square and marched to the Parliament.
"The Georgian flag is a symbol of our country, of independence and patriotism. The flag that many of our compatriots sacrificed their lives to defend. We’ve been standing in streets with this flag for 200 days now. We are defending our country’s independence, our identity and, therefore, our European future," the outlet has quoted the action organizers as stating.
"The people decide!" – under this slogan protesters gathered outside the building of the Georgian Government Administration.
According to the protesters, the current government of Georgia is illegitimate; and they demand resignation of the ruling “Georgian Dream” Party. Protesters also demand new parliamentary elections and liberation of all those detained during protests. Detainees’ family members and relatives take part in the action. Protesters unfurled the flags of Georgia and the European Union. Law enforcers have been mobilized to the scene, the “InterPressNews” has reported today.
