Volgograd student suffering from cerebral palsy sentenced to long term of imprisonment in case on high treason

In Volgograd, a court sentenced student Andrei Glukhov to 12 years of imprisonment, recognizing as high treason his transfer in the amount of 3000 roubles to an account in a Ukrainian bank. Andrei Glukhov transferred the money to a person who claimed that he was collecting signatures to speed up negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

The Volgograd Regional Court sentenced Andrei Glukhov, a 21-year-old second-year student, to 12 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony in a case on treason, the “Mediazona”* reported on June 3 with reference to the press service for the Volgograd Regional Court.

Eduard Glukhov, a father of the convicted young man, explained that after the start of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, his son met online “either through a game or on some website” a person who introduced himself to Andrei as a citizen of Ukraine. The son’s new acquaintance claimed collecting signatures “to speed up negotiations” between Russia and Ukraine and also sent Andrei Glukhov an account number in a Ukrainian bank. The student made two transfers, 1500 roubles each.

Andrei Glukhov is a person with disabilities: he suffers from cerebral palsy, and his right arm and leg do not work well. The student spent almost all his time at home. “When I visited him [in the SIZO (pre-trial prison)], he first told me that ‘everything was fine,’ but when we were already finishing our meeting, he apologized to me, and his tears began to flow,” said the father as quoted by the “Mediazona”*.

According to the case file posted on the court’s website, the verdict was pronounced down on May 29, and the trial lasted a month.
