European Parliament delegation denied visiting Mziya Amaglobeli
The authorities of Georgia have not allowed the European Parliament delegation to visit arrested journalist Mziya Amaglobeli.
The European Parliament delegation to Georgia asked the country’s authorities for permission to visit arrested journalist Mziya Amaglobeli, but was refused. This has been reported today by MEP Rasa Jukneviciene, a member of the European Parliament delegation to Georgia.
“We requested a meeting with imprisoned journalist Mziya Amaglobeli, but the authorities did not grant permission. We were not surprised,” MEP Rasa Jukneviciene wrote on her page in Facebook*.
Rasa Jukneviciene has reported that in Tbilisi, the members of the European Parliament delegation to Georgia met relatives of political prisoners who participated in the protest actions against the Georgian authorities’ refusal to integrate into Europe.
Human rights defenders note that Georgia has not yet launched a single investigation against the police inspectors whom Mziya Amaglobeli or other protesters accused of abuse and cruelty. All of those law enforcers remain on duty.
