Court dismisses all motions lodged by defence of Abzas Media staff

The defendants in the Abzas Media case have petitioned for the interrogation of the law enforcers and witnesses who were present during searches and detentions, but the court has rejected their requests and declared the end of the judicial investigation.

On May 16, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes held another hearing on the above criminal case.

The stage of examining proofs was continued under the chairmanship of Judge Rasim Sadygov. The video made during the search of the editorial office of the Abzas Media was shown in the courtroom, the “Media.Az” News Agency has reported.

While watching the above footage, the arrested Abzas Media employees asserted that the person who had left the money in the office was a policeman who was part of the task force during the search, but his name was not mentioned in the final protocol; the defendants demanded that he be brought to court for questioning, the “Meydan TV” has reported today.

Elchin Sadygov, an advocate, also demanded to question the two witnesses who were present during the search of Magomed Kekalov's home.

Besides, Ulvi Gasanli's defence demanded to question the taxi driver about the circumstances of the journalist's detention.

The judge has rejected all the motions.

The investigation of the case was officially completed; and the floor was given to the prosecution. However, the prosecutor said that he was not ready to speak and asked for additional time until the next court session.
