Teimur Kerimov's prison term reduced

The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) has partially satisfied the complaint lodged by Teimur Kerimov, the head of the YouTube resource “Kanal-11”, by reducing his prison term from eight to seven years. The defence insists on Kerimov's innocence and intends to appeal against the verdict at the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan.

On May 15, the BCA completed the consideration of the appeal complaint against the sentence awarded to Teimur Kerimov.

The BCA has partially satisfied the journalist's appeal complaint and reduced his term from eight to seven years, Nemat Kerimli, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Despite the fact that the BCA has mitigated Teimur Kerimov's sentence, we disagree with this ruling. Teimur Kerimli's guilt was not proven in court. There are no reliable proofs that he extorted money from the victims," the advocate has stated.

According to his story, a cassation appeal against the BCA’s ruling will be filed with the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan.

The BCA has confirmed the information about the ruling on Kerimov's case. Officials of the prosecution were unavailable for comments.
