State of emergency introduced due to flood cancelled in Makhachkala

The authorities of Makhachkala have cancelled the state of emergency that was introduced after heavy rainfall due to the flooding of streets and houses.

On April 21, the state of emergency was introduced in the Kirovsky District of Makhachkala, where, according to the authorities, more than a hundred houses were damaged by flooding. The damage was estimated at 18 million roubles. The water damaged property in apartments.

A sitting of the emergency commission was held in Makhachkala, the Mayor Yusup Umavov reported on his Telegram channel on April 25. "During the discussion, a decision was made to cancel the state of emergency at the municipal level in the Kirovsky District of Makhachkala," the report says.

To assess the damage, residents need to draw up a flood act. The act must indicate the cause of the flooding, list the damaged property and attach photos and videos, Ali Aliev, a lawyer, has explained.

"First of all, the suffered people should send the guilty party a written claim demanding compensation for the damage. The response deadline is 10 days. If the claim is ignored, they should file a lawsuit in court at the location of the property. The limitation period is three years from the date of the flooding," the lawyer has added.
