Kadyrov boasts of blood feud for his father's death

The murder of Suleiman Imurzaev was the fulfilment of a vow of blood feud for the death of Akhmat Kadyrov in a terror act, Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, has stated.

Akhmat Kadyrov, the father of the incumbent head of Chechnya, was killed in a terror act at a stadium in Grozny. Responsibility for organizing the assassination was claimed by Suleiman Imurzaev, the leader of an illegal armed formation (IAF), known as "Khairulla" and later killed in Chechnya.

Ramzan Kadyrov has stated that on April 4 this year he fulfilled a vow of blood feud for the death of his father killed on May 9, 2004. "That day, at my father's grave, I took a blood oath that I would spare neither means nor strength to punish those who committed this bloody terror act," he said.

According to his story, it was important for him "not only to avenge the blood of Akhmat-Khadji, but also to do it before I officially take office as President of the Chechen Republic."

Kadyrov said that he himself did not participate in the clash during which "Khairulla" was killed; the assault group and the special operation were led by Magomed Daudov.

Kadyrov has repeatedly spoken about blood feuds, despite the declared fight against this custom by the republic's authorities. And on June 26, 2024, after a militants’ attack in Dagestan, he called for a "tough response" to attacks on law enforcers, by killing all the culprits’ blood relatives.

Chechnya will be overwhelmed by a wave of blood feud declarations, if authorities introduce a rule that the entire family kin must answer for a militant’s actions. Ramzan Kadyrov's words about this contradict the Sharia, Caucasian scholars have emphasized.
