Analysts assess Adam Kadyrov’s appointment as curator of the Chechen MIA

Adam Kadyrov's new position is a test of his fitness to take over the republic’s leadership after his father, while the post of curator of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) presupposes titles and competencies that Ramzan Kadyrov's 17-year-old son does not possess.

On March 27, 2025, it became known that by order of the director of the “Rosgvardiya” (Russian National Guard), Adam Kadyrov was awarded the medal "For Combat Honours". The award became possible due to the arbitrary interpretation of Adam Kadyrov’s merits by “Rosgvardiya” bosses, analysts have noted.

According to Ruslan Kutaev, a political analyst, the appointment of Adam Kadyrov as curator of the Chechen MIA is a "test" of Kadyrov's children, agreed upon with the Kremlin, in case it is necessary to replace him as the head of the republic.

In October 2023, at her age of 24, Aishat Kadyrova received the post of the republic’s vice-premier in charge of the social block. On February 27, 2025, she announced that she was leaving her post as vice-premier, as this job is more suitable for a strong man. She intends to engage in business, including the Firdaws Fashion House.

Such a post (MIA curator) implies broad powers, Amir Kolov, a retired MIA Colonel, is sure. He suggested that this appointment would cause personnel’s internal protests.

Ramzan Kadyrov has long been pursuing a fairly independent foreign policy, in particular, by establishing relations with the Emirates, Dmitry Oreshkin*, a political analyst, has pointed out, commenting on the appeared online publications about Putin’s dissatisfaction with the actions of the head of Chechnya.

*Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
