Parents claim violation of blogger Vadim Kharchenko*'s rights

The court has refused to satisfy the appeal complaint lodged by Vadim Kharchenko*, a blogger from the city of Gelendjik, against his arrest under the slander case against an advocate. Vodim’s parents have stated that publications about their son's sentence violate his rights.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2024, the court released Kharchenko*, replacing his freedom restraint measure for a ban on certain actions. However, he was immediately arrested under another case – the slander one.

On March 12, the Gelendjik City Court sentenced Kharchenko* to seven years in colony, finding him guilty under articles on repeated discrediting the Russian Army, public insult to believers’ feelings, slander and calls for extremism.

Natalia and Mikhail Kharchenko, Vadim’s parents, have stated that their son was being persecuted for political reasons; and they treat the slander case itself as a customized one. Kharchenko* told them that he was threatened, saying that he would never leave prison if he refused to admit his guilt.

"Now we understand that these threats have become reality after three new fabricated cases," said Mikhail Kharchenko.

He is outraged that information about his son is being disseminated by the court even before the verdict comes into force. "They have already announced that he is a criminal," Kharchenko Senior has stated.

The parents were referring to the post in the Telegram channel of the united press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory about the verdict handed down to their son. They intend to appeal to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Russian Federation.
