Bank accounts of Georgian foundations arrested after support of demonstrators

The arrest has been imposed on the bank accounts of the “Nanuki Foundation”, “Prosperity Georgia” Foundation, and the Tbilisi Human Rights House.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that supporters of Georgia’s European integration are fined daily for participating in protest actions. The fines are significant for protesters and can significantly reduce the number of active demonstrators.

According to the calculations run by the “Caucasian Knot”, based on information released by the Georgian media, protests on Rustaveli Avenue take place every day.

The arrest has been imposed on the “Nanuki Foundation”, headed by journalist Nanuka Zhorzholiani, the “Prosperity Georgia” Foundation, headed by former Georgian Prime Minister and businessman Nika Gilauri, and the Tbilisi Human Rights House. All three foundations provided financial assistance to people fined during the protests or dismissed from their jobs for civic activism, the “Civil Georgia” reports.

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office stated that since November 28, 2024, protest actions in front of the Georgian parliament building and throughout the country “have become violent.” At the same time, charitable foundations “create incentives” for “illegal actions,” the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office claimed.

On March 7, the hundredth day of protest actions in Georgia, their participants declared that they were willing to fight until the authorities met their demands. According to the human rights defenders’ information, at least 626 people were persecuted for participating in the protest actions.
