During the week of March 3-9, 2025, four people perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

Four suspected militants were killed in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus during the week from March 3 to March 9, 2025. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

On March 5, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime was declared in the Makhachkala settlement of Semender. In a shootout, law enforcers killed four men. The Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) declared the casualties were militants of the banned terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS)*.

According to the Dagestan operative headquarters, law enforcers were checking information about possible plotting a terror act. During a detention attempt, several men opened fire. They were locked in a house, and residents of neighbouring houses were evacuated.

All of the casualties were residents of Dagestan. The version that those killed in Semender belonged to the IS* is questionable; and the CTO was not duly planned, veterans-law enforcers have stated. In his turn, a military expert has objected that the absence of casualties among law enforcers speaks to their high professionalism.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the organization "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
