High school students and children of priests demand European path of development for Georgia

On the 29th day of protests in Tbilisi, several marches took place in the city, including high school students from three Tbilisi schools, miners from Tkibuli, children of religious figures, and natives of Batumi.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on the 28th day of the protests in Tbilisi, about ten protest actions took place, including a women’s march, a teachers’ march, and a “unity march” that brought together members of different ethnic minorities.

Marketers, PR specialists, and designers gathered in front of the Sports Palace and marched to the parliament building, the “Pirveli” TV Company reported. The participants of the protest action demanded the appointment of new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners.

A march of children of religious figures also took place in Tbilisi. “We, the children of the religious figures, have gathered to confirm that the future of this country is Europe. Let’s not lose autocephaly, because we remember well what was done to our churches ... The fight will continue until the end,” the “Pirveli” TV Company quoted a son of a religious figure as stating.

High school students from the First Classical Gymnasium and the First Experimental School, together with their parents, have united at the “Zurab Zhvaniya March”, after whom the schools are named. The participants of the march headed to the parliament building. In their hands the marchers were holding a poster with the Zurab Zhvaniya’s quote reading: “I am Georgian, which means I am European!”.

Nino Zhvaniya, a widow of the former Prime Minister of Georgia, and her daughter Lizi Zhvaniya took part in the march.

Germanists also headed to the parliament from the building of the Tbilisi State University. They brought to the rally the posters in German reading: “Freedom for the prisoners of the regime” and “Europe is not geography, it is an idea”. In addition, Tbilisi hosted marches held by natives of Batumi and miners from Tkibuli.
