Internet users outraged by Delimkhanov's statements about hijabs

Chechen authorities should not interfere with the decisions of the authorities of another region on the issue of wearing hijabs in schools, users of the public pages in the city of Vladimir are sure.

Earlier, Salakh Mezhiev, the Mufti of Chechnya, treated the ban on hijabs in educational establishments of the Vladimir Region as unconstitutional, and the Muslims' Coordination Centre of Northern Caucasus, which he heads, called for a ban on regions from adopting such decisions. The ban on hijabs in schools was discussed at a meeting of the Russian State Duma MPs from Chechnya with Igor Igoshin, their colleague from the Vladimir Region. Adam Delimkhanov, one of the Chechen MPs, who said that the meeting took place on the instruction of the head of Chechnya, promised to achieve the cancellation of the "provocative order."

The Muslims' Coordination Centre of Northern Caucasus has spoken out against the ban on wearing religious clothing in schools, but had previously banned the wearing of niqabs. On July 13, 2024, the Centre asked the Russian President and the State Duma not to pass the bill put forward by Vladislav Davankov, a Deputy Speaker, on the ban on religious clothing. The Muftis of Northern Caucasus stated that this decision violated believers' rights. The government rejected the bill.

In the public group in the "VKontakte" social network entitled "Overheard in Vladimir", users expressed their opinions on the introduced ban on hijabs in schools in the Vladimir Region.

"Demonstrating one's religious beliefs in secular institutions is inappropriate," the user Alexei Naumov believes.

Commentators were outraged by Delimkhanov's interference in the affairs of their region.

"Why is he interfering in the affairs of the Russian Orthodox region, that is, the Vladimir Region? They can ban wearing shorts in Chechnya, but Russians in a Russian region cannot be banned from wearing Muslim clothing?" the user with the nickname Name Surname has asked.

"It was done on Kadyrov's instruction … What has Kadyrov to do with our Vladimir Region?" the user Marina Volkova has asked.
