Sentence of Ingush law enforcers in Timur Derbichev’s case mitigated

The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia mitigated the sentence of former policemen Temirlan Yevloev and Khamzat Kotiev, convicted of accepting a bribe from relatives of Timur Derbichev.

The sentence of Temirlan Yevloev and Khamzat Kotiev was reduced to seven years and six months of imprisonment.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in September, Temirlan Yevloev and Khamzat Kotiev were sentenced for accepting a bribe to eight and nine years of imprisonment, respectively. According to the investigators’ version, they took money from relatives of Timur Derbichev for refusing to institute a criminal case against him for drug possession, in which the man was forced to confess.

In January 2022, in Magas, law enforcers detained local resident Timur Derbichev on suspicion of illegal drug possession. The man was beaten. In August 2023, a court sentenced former law enforcers Amiran Merzhoev to four years of suspended imprisonment in the case on beating. In December, the court of appeal toughened the punishment of Amiran Merzhoev, sentencing him to two years of imprisonment in a penal colony. On August 29, the Magas District Court of Ingushetia sentenced Sulumbek Yandyrkhanov, another law enforcer, to 4.5 years of imprisonment, finding him guilty of beating the detainee. On September 3, Idris Fargiev, another policeman, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a penal colony.
