Death toll from militants’ attacks in Dagestan increases to 21

In Dagestan, a policeman who participated in repelling a militants’ attack died in a hospital. So, the total number of perished law enforcers and civilians has reached 21.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 24, the Dagestani Ministry for Public Health reported that as a result of the militants’ attack, 20 people were killed and other 46 were injured.

On the night of June 25, a policeman who took part in repelling the militants’ attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala died in a hospital. So, the death toll from the militants’ attacks has increased to 21, the TASS reports with reference to the operational law enforcement services of Derbent.

Twenty victims still receive medical treatment in hospital, the TASS quotes Russian Minister for Public Health Mikhail Murashko as reporting.

Let us remind you that on June 23, the Christian holiday of the Holy Trinity, militants attacked a synagogue and an Orthodox church in Derbent and Makhachkala. The militants’ attacks became the first armed incidents in Dagestan within more than a year.

Veterans of the special services interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot” claimed that the militants’ attacks in Dagestan were a failure of the law enforcement bodies, who did not pay due attention to preventive work. On June 23, the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated that the militants’ attacks were organized by the “Vilayat Caucasus” (a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), a division of the “Islamic State”*.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation recognized the organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
