Court sentences conditionally law enforcers-figurants in torture case of Dagestani woman Kurashova

Shamil Aliev and Ramazan Saipulaev, former policemen, have been sentenced to conditional imprisonment and fines in the torture case of Yulduz Kurashova, a Khasavyurt resident. The third defendant, Maya Akhmedova, was acquitted, the "Team against Torture" (TaT)* has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 10, 2022, the Khasavyurt City Court sentenced the policemen, Shamil Aliev and Ramazan Saipulaev, to 3.5 years in penal colony each, finding them guilty of torturing Yulduz Kurashova and falsifying the proofs in the case of illegal sale of some potent drug. The court also found that Maya Akhmedova, a detective agent, was involved in the case falsification. She was sentenced to a year of conditional imprisonment. On December 15, 2022, the appeal court overturned the verdict.

The case of abuse of service power with the use of violence was opened after Kurashova had complained about harsh detention and forced to sign a confession to selling narcotic substances.

The court has sentenced Aliev to three years of probation and a fine of 150,000 roubles, and his former colleague Saipulaev – to four years of probation and a fine of 200,000 roubles, the TaT* writes in its Telegram channel.

The court has also acquitted Akhmedova. Yulduz Kurashova herself is dissatisfied with the acquittal and intends to appeal against it.

Let us remind you that Kurashova was detained by law enforcers on March 26, 2020. According to her story, they beat her up, insulted her, and threatened to open a case for drug sales.

In December 2022, Kurashova said that she had problems with insomnia and nerves, and after the verdict to law enforcers was overturned, these problems had worsened.

*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
