Zarema Musaeva takes increased dose of medication

The health state of Zarema Musaeva in a penal colony is deteriorating: the woman has to take increased dose of insulin and painkillers. Zarema Musaeva was subjected to medical examination at the Republican Hospital of Chechnya, but is not receiving adequate medical treatment, her advocate reports.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Zarema Musaeva was not subjected to a medical examination after a request for her release was sent in December 2023 due to her severe health condition. On March 28, the advocate reported that Zarema Musaeva’s sense of vision had sharply deteriorated and that she was experiencing severe pain. The deterioration of the Zarema Musaeva’s health state is another reason for her conditional early relief (CER), but she is actually being held hostage by the Chechen authorities, human rights defenders point out.

Advocate Alexander Savin visited Zarema Musaeva at the penal colony in the city of Argun. The woman claims that because of constant pain in her leg, she could not sleep well and now permanently takes painkillers, the “Team Against Torture” (TaT)* reports.

The defence requested the chief of the medical unit of the penal colony for assistance in providing Zarema Musaeva with adequate medical care, the “Team Against Torture” (TaT)* reports in its Telegram channel. “Her pain increases, as does the dose of painkillers, but the situation does not change fundamentally and no medical treatment is being provided,” the advocate claimed.

“We expect a final decision on the possibility of Zarema Musaeva’s release for health reasons by the end of April,” the human rights defenders quote Alexander Savin as stating.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
