Chechen Seda Suleimanova’s friend summoned for questioning in murder case

In Chechnya, an investigator summoned Lena Patyaeva for questioning in the case on the murder of her friend Seda Suleimanova, who was taken away by relatives from Saint Petersburg and stopped getting in touch with anyone.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 3, it became known that the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), in its responses to authors of the appeals with requests to launch an investigation into the disappearance of Seda Suleimanova, announced that a criminal investigation had begun.

In February and March, Lena Patyaeva held rallies in Saint Petersburg in support of Seda Suleimanova. She stated that nothing had been known about her friend’s fate for 150 days.

“Seda’s mother was recognized as the victim, although, according to the information from the investigator, the woman did not file any complaints in connection with the disappearance of her daughter,” the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reports in its Telegram channel.

On February 6, journalists called Seda Suleimanova’s family, and two close relatives of Seda said that she was standing next to them, but they refused to give her a mobile phone.

On February 7, the “SK SOS Crisis Group”* reported that two sources in Chechnya voiced a version about the the murder of Seda Suleimanova by her relatives.

The long absence of any information about the fate of Seda Suleimanova does not give reason to believe that she was killed, experts note. “Honour killings” are not committed for lack of religiosity, and the relatives could limit themselves to isolating Seda Suleimanova from people, the experts explained.
