Makhachkala court stops proceedings on complaint of journalist Sevrinovsky against investigators

The Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala has stopped proceedings on the complaint lodged by Vladimir Sevrinovsky, a journalist, about investigators' inaction. For more than a year they refused to register his application about his illegal detention in September 2022, at an anti-mobilization rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 25 and 26, 2023, large-scale protests against mobilization took place in Makhachkala. Law enforcers also detained the journalists who covered the protests; Sevrinovsky was also detained by force and arrested for five days. He later got the sentence overturned.

According to the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Protection, the court ruled that the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) had actually complied with the journalist's demands, that is, it had registered his application about the crime.

Earlier, the Sovietsky District Court terminated proceedings on similar complaints lodged by Yulia Vishnevetskaya and Sergey Ainbinder. Then, an investigator also stated that the applications were registered, therefore, the violations had been eliminated.
