Scandal at Derbent school reminds about teachers' and officials' responsibility for children

The incident when schoolgirls of the Derbent school received insults and threats for allegedly inappropriate clothes and appearance could not have happened if the school administration had introduced school uniforms, and officials had paid more attention to educating and upbringing young people. This is what Dagestani political analyst, educator and lawyer assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the head of Derbent had confirmed that at local school No. 15, inappropriate statements were made against girls-tenth-graders. According to his story, the parties resolved the conflict themselves.

On January 22, the Dagestani Prosecutor's Office (PO) reported about the check of the information about violations of schoolchildren's rights in Derbent. High school pupils persecuted the teenagers whose dress code and appearance they treated as immoral. Schoolchildren are beaten up, threatened and insulted in social networks.

Should the due educational work have been conducted with pupils at educational establishments, such incidents would not have happened. On the other hand, all the blame cannot be placed solely on teachers, Albert Esedov, a political analyst, has stated.

"Teachers are overloaded; apart from plenty of bureaucracy, there are problems with overcrowded classes and deficit of textbooks," he has added.

There is a sort of a "new tradition" in the Dagestani society, when one part thereof it tries to teach the other part how to live correctly, and the latter does the same in relation to the former one, Mr Esedov has concluded, stressing that "it's bad that this tradition is penetrating into the school environment."

If the school administration had introduced a uniform that met the minimum ethical requirements, that is, had long sleeves and a skirt below the knees, then there would not have been the incident of violating pupils' rights, an educator, one of the members of the channel entitled "Dagestani Headquarters" and intended for discussing and resolving republic's pressing issues.
