ECtHR treats convoying conditions of Ruslan Rakhaev to colony as inhumane

For the torturous conditions of transporting to the colony, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has awarded Ruslan Rakhaev, an ex-deputy head of the Cherkessk criminal investigation division, compensation of EUR 8500. The Public Verdict Foundation* has informed in its Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that two Rakhaev's complaints had been sent to the ECtHR. Human rights defenders have pointed out that investigators and the court had deprived the defence of Ruslan Rakhaev, a former police captain, of the opportunity to present proofs of his innocence.

"Usually we are on the other barricade side and support victims of police violence. But this case has interested us immediately. When studying its materials, numerous frauds were discovered ... For many years we tried to achieve Ruslan's acquittal, but the court wouldn't see obvious facts that Rakhaev was not involved in that crime," Dmitry Egoshin, a lawyer for the above Foundation*, has stated.

However, he has recalled that "Rakhaev's problems didn't end there." "He was convoyed in inhumane conditions. During long stops it was impossible to go to the toilet. Hot water was rarely provided. It was impossible to eat in normal conditions. And this is only a small part thereof," Mr Egoshin has stated.

Let us remind you that on June 14, 2018, the Cherkessk City Court found Rakhaev, who was the head of the Cherkessk criminal investigation division in October 2011, guilty of beating up the detainee Dakhir Djankezov, after which the latter died.
