Convicted activist Daria Polyudova not in contact with her family for six months

Krasnodar activist Daria Polyudova, who is serving her sentence in a penal colony in Kabardino-Balkaria, has not sent letters or called her relatives for six months already, her mother says.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on October 19, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia refused to change the verdict against Daria Polyudova, who was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment in a case on creating an extremist community and publicly justifying terrorism. Daria Polyudova stated there was no evidence that she had allegedly created an extremist community. The convicted Krasnodar activist also complained about obstacles in sending and receiving letters in the penal colony, low temperature in her cell, and lack of medicines.

Daria Polyudova has not been in touch with her relatives for six months already, her mother Tatiana Polyudova tells the “Kavkaz.Realii”*. According to the woman, even if her daughter is being kept in strict detention conditions, she has the right to send letters. “I think this is how they put pressure on my daughter,” says Tatiana Polyudova

Let us remind you that in 2015-2017, Daria Polyudova was imprisoned in a case on public calls for separatism and extremism. The criminal case was instituted after the activist had attempted to hold an action “For the federalization of Kuban”.

In May 2021, in Moscow, a court sentenced Daria Polyudova to six years of imprisonment in a penal colony for her posts on a social network in which Daria Polyudova “justified the activities of Chechen field commanders Shamil Basaev and Aslan Maskhadov,” as well as Yevgeny Manyurov, who opened fire near the FSB building in Moscow in 2019. In December 2021, a new case was instituted against the Krasnodar activist. In 2018, Daria Polyudova became a laureate of the Sakharov Prize “For Journalism as an Act”.
