Rights defenders treat Nazran incident as honour killing

A woman's body was found in Nazran (the largest city of Ingushetia); a murder case is being investigated, sources have reported. According to their data, the body was deprived of its head and hands; human rights defenders don't rule out that the woman was a victim of domestic violence or of honour killing.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the problem of domestic violence in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Chechnya affects women of different ages, but mostly girls under 30 try to escape from it. At the same time, they face threats of losing contact with their children, and the problem of "honour killings" is also relevant, human rights defenders from the "Ad Rem" team have stated in their report.

The body of the above woman with signs of violent death was found in a vacant lot in Nazran, the Investigating Department for Ingushetia of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has reported in its Telegram channel.

The woman's body was found beheaded and with hands cut off; it was sprinkled with lime, the "Rozysk Ingushetia" Telegram channel has reported. "Facial features and possible fingerprints could help identify the murdered woman, compare her restored image with photographs of missing republic's women, or "those who fled abroad and broke ties with relatives," the report says.

Parts of the casualty's body were hidden so that she would not be identified, and the body was sprinkled with lime in the hope that nothing would remain of it, the "Marem" crisis group wrote in its Telegram channel.

Human rights defenders have suggested that the woman could have become a victim of domestic violence. "Home is the most unsafe place for a woman," they have noted, citing a study conducted by the "Light Algorithm" programme.

The deceased woman could have been a victim of an honour killing, writes the "Not Feminism" Telegram channel.
