Residents of Cherkessk refrained from new anti-Israeli protest

Participants of the anti-Israeli rally in Cherkessk, after arrests and preventive conversations, abandoned plans to hold a similar rally, one of the detainees said. Local Jews for the first time encountered manifestations of anti-Semitic sentiments, said the leader of the Jewish community of Cherkessk.

One of the participants of the protest, who was detained and fined, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the rally planned for October 31 in Cherkessk did not take place due to the reluctance of the detainees to return to the police department. “After the arrest, there was no more talk about the rally on October 31. No one will go out to protest. We were all warned about the consequences,” he said on condition of anonymity. As of November 1, no applications have been received to hold the action in Cherkessk, an employee of the city administration confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Jewish community of Cherkessk "Lechaim" encountered anti-Semitic sentiments for the first time, the chairman of the community, Eleonora Erchenko, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

“This has never happened. We could not even imagine that this was possible. And I want to say that such sentiments are in individual groups of society. In the society of Karachay-Cherkessia itself, there are no such sentiments. These are individual elements that oppose the Jews. I personally don’t feel afraid for myself, because I was born and raised here. We never quarreled about such issues, I have many friends here, and they all were and still are respectful people,” she said.
