Vladikavkaz: about 100 people commemorate repression victims

Activists and descendants of those repressed have held an action in Vladikavkaz dated to the Remembrance Day of Victims of Political Repressions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since 1991, October 30 has been marked in Russia as the Remembrance Day for Victims of Political Repressions. On October 28, in Volgograd, local university students took part in the all-Russian action "Names Return" by gathering near the monument to the victims of Stalin's repressions and reading out the names of those repressed.

In Vladikavkaz, activists of public organizations and authorities, as well as schoolchildren and policemen laid flowers at the "Stone of Tears" monument in memory of the victims of political repressions. In total, about 100 people gathered at the action.

Tamara Kaitukova, Deputy Director of the House of Friendship of North-Ossetian Nations, has reminded those gathered about the significance of this day for all of Russia.

Auzbi Zuraev has published six books in memory of victims of political repressions. He is no longer alive, but his son Arkady Zuraev continued his work, Ms Kaitukova has stated.

"There is almost no family in Ossetia that has not been affected by years of repressions. For example, my grandfather was repressed," Tamara Kaitukova has added.

Auzbi Zuraev's son Arkady came to commemorate repression victims. According to his story, one of the missions of the Association of Victims of Political Repressions is to digitize the books published by his father.

Zoya Kaloeva, 83, is one of those whose family suffered during repressions. Despite her age and state of health, she came to honour the memory of repression victims. Ms Kaloeva said that her parents and grandfather were exiled to Siberia. There, Zoya's mother gave birth to four children, one of whom later died.
