ECtHR recognizes violation of rights of father of former Kadyrov's bodyguard killed in Vienna

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has awarded compensation to Sharpuddi Israilov, who claimed being tortured in Chechnya in 2004-2005, as well as his complaint about the murder of his son Umar (Alikhan) Israilov, who had worked in the security service of the head of Checnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the above Umar Israilov was killed in Vienna on January 13, 2009. The court found three natives from Chechnya living in Austria guilty of murdering Israilov. Kadyrov then assured that he was not involved in Israilov's murder.

In 2001, Umar Israilov joined an illegal armed formation (IAF). In April 2003, he was detained, and after three months of arrest and torture, Israilov, at the invitation of Ramzan Kadyrov, joined his security service. The kidnapped man agreed because he feared further torture, but a few months later he fled to Poland.

In November 2004, a man called Umar Israilov and, in a voice similar to Kadyrov's one, threatened to kill his relatives if he did not return to Chechnya. After his refusal, Kadyrov people detained Umar's father and other relatives, taking them to the Kadyrovs' family village. There, the kidnapped people were beaten and tortured with electric shocks. According to Sharpuddi Israilov, he was released in October 2005, and in response to his complaints, they forced him to sign a statement that he had not been kidnapped. In 2006, he left Russia.

Russian law enforcement bodies refused to open an investigation into the allegations of kidnapping and torture. The ECtHR stated that Russian authorities were inefficient in investigating Israilov's allegations of kidnapping and torture, and awarded him compensation of EUR 104,000.
