Kalmyk activist Boromangnaev states threat of deportation from Mongolia

Batyr Boromangnaev, a Kalmyk activist, flew from Kazakhstan to Mongolia, where he planned to apply for political asylum, but the border guards did not let him out of the airport. Boromangnaev said that law enforcers threatened him with deportation to Russia.

"It all happened because my Russian passport expired the day before the arrival, because Kazakh authorities detained me, although I had a ticket for February 20, 2023. On February 22, 2023, it expired. As a result, I was forced to fly on February 23," the activist has explained.

According to his story, they threat to deport him. "It immediately became clear that they were trying to fulfil their duty – to extradite the Russian oppositionist," he has written.

Batyr has added that they "grabbed him and almost tore his jacket," but he "resisted a little." "One of the officers said that if I resist and complain, they'll send me directly to Russia," he has added.

Mongolian volunteers could make their way to the activist only a day later; they brought him some food and held a rally in support of Boromangnaev at the airport, the SOTA outlet has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 25, 2022, law enforcers ordered Boromangnaev to appear at the police for explanation about the post in social networks, in which he compared Russia with Nazi Germany. He was charged with petty hooliganism. According to Boromangnaev, the reason was a post on the social network about Nazi Germany, and his persecution has to do with his political position. On February 28, 2022, law enforcers took him to the police station after he photographed a participant in a pacifist picket.
