Authorities confirm deaths of 1000 residents of Southern Russia in Ukraine

Since the start of the special military operation (SMO), authorities have confirmed the deaths in Ukraine of at least 613 residents of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) and 387 residents of the Southern Federal District (SFD). Most of the casualties, 273 people, were from Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by November 25, at least 952 natives of Southern Russia had perished in the SMO.

The deaths of at least 613 NCFD residents have been officially confirmed, of which 273 are natives of Dagestan. The officials have also reported the deaths of 110 natives of North Ossetia, 97 fighters from the Stavropol Territory, and 53 residents of Chechnya. The deaths of 47 natives of Kabardino-Balkaria, 28 – of Ingushetia and five residents of Karachay-Cherkessia have been also confirmed.

Since the start of the SMO in Ukraine, the SFD authorities have reported the deaths of at least 358 people. In the Volgograd Region, the deaths of 168 natives of the region were confirmed; in the Rostov Region – 89 deaths; in the Krasnodar Territory – 57 ones; in the Astrakhan Region – 50 ones. Besides, officials reported the deaths of 12 natives of Adygea and 11 fighters from Kalmykia.

Earlier, analysts pointed to the deficit of information on the death toll in Ukraine. As a rule, most of the contract soldiers originate from poor Russian regions, which explains the frequent reports of casualties among the natives of Dagestan and other NCFD republics, Akhmet Yarlykapov, a Caucasian scholar, has suggested.
